I run small-group music classes for babies and toddlers from birth up to 20 months, here at Rhythm Room in the Leitrim Wellness Centre. Each session is 45 minutes of gentle, joyful music — songs, movement, rhythm, and sensory play — in a warm, calm space where there's no pressure on you or your little one to be anything other than exactly as you are. Crying, feeding, nappy changes, wriggling — all of it is welcome here. That's just life with a baby, and these classes are built around that reality.
I've structured the classes by age because what a newborn needs from music is genuinely different from what a 15-month-old needs. For babies from birth to around nine months, the focus is on sensory awakening, bonding, and laying the earliest foundations of language. Music is one of the most powerful tools we have for non-verbal communication at this age — it deepens the connection between you and your baby in a way that's hard to put into words until you've experienced it in the room. For toddlers from ten to twenty months, we build on that foundation with more movement, more rhythm, and games that support coordination, impulse control, and early social skills like turn-taking and watching peers. It's their first taste of being in a group, learning from each other, and having a little bit of independence — all through play.
You don't need to be musical. You don't need to be able to sing in tune. Your baby genuinely doesn't care — they just want to hear your voice and feel your presence. All instruments and sensory props are provided. Come as you are.
